High school diploma and placement through a centralzed ational university placement examination, Student Selection Exam, OSS. Please, visit www.osym.gov.tr for more information. There is a quota for international students who are admitted through selection by the university among the applications.
Admission can be made from the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in vertical transfer examination are also admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs in vocational school from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ataturk University and thus the department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language. The students who achieve a passing grade from the exam are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.
Students must be successfull and/or pass all courses on the programme including graduation thesis and internship that are explained education and exam regulation of Ataturk University.
The aim of the Department of Horticulture, has been active since 1968 under various name, are to provide sciencetific research and educational programs to promote sustainability of East Anatolia’s horticulture industry, and to enhance the quality of the rural environment. The Department of Horticulture carries a leadership role in Agricultural Education and maintaining the high quality of East Anatolia’s rural environment of Turkey.
Horticultural Graduates take professional role in establishment of many public and private sector. Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Ministry of Development, National Productivity Centre, Export Development and Study Center, Undersecretariat of Treasury, Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade, Public and Private Banks, Agro-Industry Enterprises, Agricultural Cooperatives, Control and Certification Bodies, Consulting Firms in agriculture and agro-industry, non-governmental and seed sector organizations. Graduates also take place in national and international rural development projects that are very much promising.
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines. Students who are high honor students are also eligible to apply to doctorate degree at Ataturk University.
For each course assessment and grading is described in Syllabus in details. Grades are assessed through relative assessment system. Assessment is done according to the Education and Examination Regulation of Ataturk University and Faculty of Agriculture.
Students must take and pass all necessary courses, graduation thesis and intermship listed in curriculum totaling 240 ECTS credits and reach a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2,0.
