Students are enrolled in the Social Work Department undergraduate program by completing Turkish secondary education or receiving equivalent education abroad and by equal weighted (EW) and central placement system according to the results of Undergraduate Placement Examination.
Students who have completed Turkish secondary education or have received equivalent education abroad can apply to the Social Work Department undergraduate program. Also, students are admitted by undergraduate transfer by fulfilling the conditions stated in Atatürk University Undergraduate Regulation. In order to graduate from the program, 166 credits and 240 ECTS must be completed successfully by graduating from courses and practices (internships) in the Social Work Undergraduate Program. Internships will be conducted in areas such as social work with individuals, social work with groups, social work with the community and social service management. In the last year, the practice courses will be implemented in small groups under the supervision of an instructor and students will gain experience of producing scientific knowledge. Graduates of Social Work Undergraduate Program are named as "Social Worker".
The social work department aims to train successful professionals in the field who are aware of their professional ethical responsibilities, mastering psychology, behavioral science, sociology, social policy, social work methods and techniques and professional practices. Individuals graduated from the social work department work as social workers in public, private sector or non-governmental organizations.
The Ministry of Family and Social Policies, The Minstry of Youth and Sports, Social Work Provincial Directorates, Social Work Centers, Children’s Homes, Child Support Centers, Children’s Homes Coordination Centers, Rest Homes, Elderly Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers, Private Education Institutions, Hospitals, Kindergartens and Children’s Nurseries, Prisons, Juvenile Courts, Institution of Forensic Medicine, Youth Centers, Women’s Shelter, Family Planning and Maternity Health Centers, The Ministry of National Education, Vocational Training Centers, Credit and Dormitories Institution, Social Securtiy Institution, Foundation of Social Assistance and Solidarity, Nongovernmental Organizations, Social Work Units of Local Governments are the institutions in which social workers can work.
Students who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study at the graduate programs, provided they have a valid score on the ALES exam and have sufficient English language knowledge.
Students are required to take the midterm, midterm study (project, seminar, quiz, homework, or second midterm) and final exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam and / or midterm work is 40% and the contribution of the final exam is 60%. All exams are converted to a letter grade in the relative grade system, which is evaluated over 100 points. There is a requirement to take at least 45 points by the final exam. At the end of each semester, the students may take the make-up exam from all courses of that semester.
In order to complete the program successfully, it is necessary to pass all the courses that are available in the program (240 ECTS credits) and obtain a weighted GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
Full-time and daytime education style is applied in the social work department.
