German Linguistics Master Degree, German Culture and Literature Master Degree
Students must have the necessary required criteria of Institute of Social Sciences.
Students who have done their Bachelor degrees in German Language and Literature program can be directly admitted to the department. However, the students who have received their Bachelor degrees from other fields can be accepted to the program only after taking required preparation courses in one academic year (two semesters).
In order to receive a Master of Science degree in German Language and Literature field, students have to successfully complete compulsory and elective courses, give a seminar about their thesis subjects, and present and defend a review or original research thesis.
The programs given in our department include the studies made and being made in the field of German Literature and Culture. The aim of the program is to graduate students who will be able to produce contemporary thoughts in terms of scientifically proper studies being carried out in this department. The courses in the program also cover advanced analysis of different types of literary works in terms of theoretical/social, historical and cultural concepts. For this reason, an interdisciplinary approach will be determined. The purpose is to make interdisciplinary research and studies on German Language and Literature and culture and to help students get qualities of a researcher in the subjects of German Language and Literature. In order to make them contribute to universal information through research, approach and ways of progress, the students should be taught as experts and researchers in the fields of sociology, art and human sciences. Our program includes the subjects of German Language and Literature, Austria and Swiss Culture and Literature, Comparative Literature, Literary Theory and Criticism, Cultural Studies and Cultural Theory.
Students who completed their MA can apply some academic positions at Universities
They can apply PhD programmes.
70 % attendance is a must for graduate courses. Examinations may be written, oral or both and may include take-home as well as lab and computer work. At least one 1hr mid-term and one 2hr final plus a completion (in case final grades are insufficient) examination is administerd by the instructor. Course grades are based on term work (30 %) and final (or completion) exam (70 %) results. A student in MS (PhD) program is considered successful if course grade is at least 65 (75), out of 100. Course grades are then converted to equivalent letter grades according to the following scheme: Letter Coefficient Grade (100 based) AA 4,00 90 – 100 BA 3,50 85 – 89 BB 3,00 80 – 84 CB 2,50 75 – 79 CC 2,00 65 – 74 FF 0,00 0 – 64 G (Pass) M (Exempt) D (No attention) K (Fail) E (Incomplete) Letter grades (G), (M), (K) are not considered in GPA calculations.
